Traffic Infractions Under Indiana Law in Delaware County

Traffic citations in Indiana are civil proceedings. Under Indiana Code Title 34, infraction cases follow civil procedure rules. No jail time is at risk for a standard traffic infraction. The consequences are fines, court costs, and BMV points. Enough points can trigger a license suspension or cause insurance rates to rise sharply.

Indiana Code Title 9 covers motor vehicles and traffic rules across the state. It sets fine amounts, establishes how violations are classified, and governs how the BMV records convictions. Delaware County courts apply these rules consistently. Minor violations go to the violations bureau, where you can pay without appearing in court. If you want to contest the charge or if it is a more serious violation, you need to appear before a judge.

Once a case is resolved, the result is public record and searchable through MyCase. To see what is on your official driving record, visit the Indiana BMV website. The BMV record and the court record are separate, but both matter if you are trying to understand the full impact of a traffic conviction.
